Ohio’s own Mutilatred (featuring two ex-members of confrontational metal/noisecore outfit Premonitions of War) emerge from the stygian depths of Toledo with their first full length offering of twisting darkened old school death metal owing a great deal to legends Incantation. Traces of PoW can be heard in Dissecting Your Futures most discordant moments, but I assure you this is grave desecrating, corpse fucking true death that is not to be missed by fans of Ignovimous, Resurgency, Destroying Divinity, or Ectovoid.”
– Trevor Strnad, The Obituarist, Metal Injection
“There’s nothing fancy about this music. It’s stripped-down, down-tuned, primal in its brutality, and remorseless in its delivery, combining an atmosphere of malevolent darkness and physically dismantling grooves, as if Incantation and Devourment had found a ground zero where they could jointly detonate an apocalyptic weapon.”
– No Clean Singing
“Does there always need to be a thesis level reason why you like a particular record? My answer is that when I played it loudly in the living room my reaction was something close to, “Shit. Yeah. This slams”.”
– Teeth of the Divine
“The music is filled with hate and they intend on mutilating you even after your body is lifeless. With a mixture of slam, deathgrind, and even old school death metal thrown in the mix, Mutilatred are out for blood with their release.”
– Cadaver Garden
“Heavy, blunt, drudging and with a pertinacious drive, which creates the image of a huge, crushing eight cylinder engine in your mind’s eye. It is exactly that restrained power that is omnipresent throughout the album that is sparsely unleashed which gives this record its most impressive selling point..Cannot call this baby ‘catchy’, but it is damn immersive and compelling stuff they’ve got here. A lovely nihilistic album!
– Lords of Metal
“Pure filth. Someone found a fetid swamp on a Superfund site, scraped the bottom, exposed it to radiation, let it mold, and then drank it straight, no chaser. Once transformed by this event, they then made this album. Horrifying low end madness.”
– Moshpit Nation
Mutilatred exist for one reason… to pummel your rotting corpse to a second death. No frills – no glossy image – all sickness! A bombastic combination of old school New York death metal, slam, and putrid death grind with heavy down tuned guitars, pounding shotgun blasts, and enough groove to beat someone’s face into oblivion. Redefining Darkness are re-releasing this gem as a 6-Panel digipak and will include 5 Bonus tracks taken from their Split w/ label mates From the Hellmouth.
If you were to combine the bowel heavy lows and muddiness of Incantation & Mortician, the slower funeral dirge riffs from Immolation, and the slamming groove of Devourment, you’d be somewhere close to describing Mutilatred. The band do not seek to reinvent the wheel but rather defile it and shove it down the throats of what experts in the “industry” consider to be “modern death metal.” With only 2 songs reaching over the 3 minute mark, Muliatred waste no time with filler and are constantly pushing the limits of extremity on their debut LP. Catch this band on tour in November w/ Black Dahlia Murder, Midnight, and Temple of Void and keep the spirit of death metal alive!
